Use with ChatGPT Plus / Pro #
Connect natively via MCP (Model Context Protocol) for a faster, more stable experience.
What You Need #
- A ChatGPT paid account (Plus or Pro) — MCP connections are not available on the Free plan
- A Garmin device + Garmin Connect account (age 16+)
- (Optional) A Google account — makes signing in smoother
First-Time Setup #
When using this for the first time, follow the steps below in order. There are several stages: adding the app → signing in to Fitness AI Connector → connecting your Garmin account.
Open "Apps" from the ChatGPT sidebar. This is the entry point for using your favorite apps directly in ChatGPT chats.
In the search box at the top right of the "Apps" screen, type "Fitness AI Connector". When the green-logo "Fitness AI Connector / Garmin Health & Fitness Data" appears, open it.
The app detail screen opens. Press the "Connect" button at the top right.
A confirmation screen titled "Add Fitness AI Connector to ChatGPT" appears. Press "Sign in with Fitness AI Connector" to proceed to the sign-in screen.
The fmp-services sign-in screen appears. This is not a Garmin login — it is signing in to (creating an account for) Fitness AI Connector itself. The name may look unfamiliar, but rest assured this is our service's authentication screen.
You can sign in with an email and password, or with a Google account. If this is your first time, create a new account from "Sign up".
If this is your first time, your Garmin account is not yet connected right after signing in. In that case, you'll be guided to a Garmin connection link (https://garmin-mcp-nuqd.onrender.com/garmin/link).
Open that link in your browser and authorize access on the Garmin consent screen. Once authorized, your Garmin account is connected and data can be retrieved. You only need to connect once; after that it's automatic.
(Note: If you've already connected Garmin via another AI assistant, this step is skipped and the connection completes immediately.)
Once connected, the app's button changes to "Start chat". From the gear icon on the right, you can configure when permission is requested or disconnect.
Press "Start chat" and ask. You can use natural language such as "Show me the details of my latest run", "Give me today's health summary", or "How has my sleep quality been lately?" A Garmin attribution note — indicating the data was recorded by a Garmin device — appears at the end of each answer. This is by design and is a normal display.
⚠️ Time until data appears, and the historical-data limitation
Data from before the day you connect cannot be retrieved. Due to a Garmin policy (a restriction on new apps from November 2025 onward), only data from the connection day onward is available.
Also, right after connecting, data may not have arrived yet. Sync your device in the Garmin Connect app; it can take a few hours up to 24 hours for data to arrive. Seeing "no data" right after connecting is not an error.
💡 If the connection doesn't work
In a browser's incognito/private mode, or with settings that block third-party cookies, the sign-in screen may stall partway or the connection may not complete. In that case, try again in a normal browser window with pop-ups and cookies allowed.
Using It Again #
Signing in and connecting Garmin are one-time steps. From the second time on, you can use it simply by calling Fitness AI Connector from the chat input field.
On a normal chat screen, press the "+" to the left of the message input field.
From the menu that appears, select "Fitness AI Connector". This enables Fitness AI Connector for this conversation.
Ask in natural language — "Give me today's health summary", "How has my sleep quality been lately?" — and you'll get answers based on your Garmin data.
💡 On the Free plan? You can still use Fitness AI Connector via a Custom GPT. ChatGPT Free Setup Guide →
