Developer Option
#

Developer Option lets a program you run yourself read your own Garmin data through Fitness AI Connector — the same tools that ChatGPT and Claude use. It is a paid add-on to Basic, issued one per account after a short review.

What you can connect
#

  • A script or command-line tool on your own computer
  • A dashboard or automation you run on your own server, or on a cloud automation service you use yourself
  • AI coding tools that support a custom MCP server with your own OAuth client

Where the program runs does not matter. What matters is who uses it: only you.

What is not covered
#

  • Apps or services used by other people, including friends, clients or a team
  • Anything that redistributes your data to others as a service
  • Mobile apps that rely on a custom URL scheme (myapp://…) — use an https callback instead

If you want to build something for other people, Developer Option is not the right path; please contact us about a partner integration instead.

How the connection works

Your program connects as an OAuth client of Fitness AI Connector:

  • Public client + PKCE. You receive a Client ID only. There is no client secret to store; you sign in to Fitness AI Connector in your browser to authorize your program.
  • One callback address, fixed at approval time. Either
    • a loopback address on your own machine — http://127.0.0.1, http://localhost or http://[::1] with a fixed path (any port), or
    • one exact https URL on a server you control.
  • Consent screen. Each authorization shows a screen naming your client. It is issued for your account only; if you see a request you did not start, decline it.
  • Data scope. Read-only access to your own data through the existing tools. No write operations.

Detailed setup instructions (endpoints, parameters, examples) are sent to you by email when your application is approved.

How to get it

Apply

Sign in and tell us what you are building and which callback address it uses. Developer Option requires a current Basic subscription.

Review

We review each application individually. You will hear back by email; we do not explain the reasons for a decline.

Approval email

If approved, the email contains your Client ID, the setup guide and a link to subscribe. Your client is issued at this point but stays inactive until you subscribe.

Subscribe

Complete the subscription within 14 days of approval; the price is shown on the checkout page. Your client becomes active within a few minutes of payment.

Connect

Follow the setup guide from the email. The first run opens your browser to sign in and approve; after that your program refreshes its access on its own.

Apply for Developer Option

You can check the state of your application or client at any time on your Developer Option status page.

Good to know
#

  • One client per account. To change the callback address, ask us to reissue.
  • Cancelling. To stop Developer Option alone, cancel “Fitness AI Connector - Developer Option” in Manage billing; your Basic plan continues. If you cancel Basic, Developer Option ends on the same day your Basic ends and is not charged after that, so you do not need to cancel it separately. The remaining days of Developer Option are not refunded.
  • Use it only for yourself. Sharing the client, or using it for other people, ends the option without refund (see section 4.7 of the Terms).
  • Keep your program’s storage safe. Your program holds tokens for your own data; protect the machine or service it runs on as you would any account.
